Scam Alert
The Maui Police Department wants to inform the public about ongoing scams affecting our community.
Fake Jewelry Scam – Scammers in parking lots claim they were robbed and need cash for travel, offering jewelry for sale. Please do NOT purchase jewelry from anyone who approaches you on the street. A reputable vendor will have a brick-and-mortar store, pop-up shop, or verified E-commerce website.
Spoofed Calls – Scammers pose as MPD, or other government agency employees claiming you have a warrant or legal issue, demanding payment via cryptocurrency, gift cards, or apps. Please note that no law enforcement or government agency will attempt to “clear up” warrants or other legal sanctions over the phone, nor will they ever request your financial information to do so over the phone.
If you have been approached to buy jewelry or observe something suspicious or unusual, report it by calling (808) 244-6400 or 911 in an emergency.
